Lake Elsinore is a short drive from our base in Menifee, and the calls we get here sound like the ones at home: hot upstairs, a drafty back room, a power bill that keeps climbing.
Houses here run from older homes to newer tracts, and we see the same mix in French Valley and Wildomar. Older houses usually have a few inches of worn insulation and years of open gaps around lights and pipes. Newer ones tend to have plenty in the middle of the attic and too little at the edges, where the roof comes down to the walls. Either way, what's already up there decides the job, so I look before I quote, and if yours is in good shape I'll tell you it isn't worth redoing.
What moves the price and the schedule
Price comes down to what's already in your attic and what has to happen before new insulation goes in. I look at how many inches are up there, how old the house is, how easy the attic is to get around and whether old material has to come out first. Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates, but sealing the gaps and topping up with blown-in insulation, loose fill we blow through a hose, usually wins unless your ductwork runs through the attic. How long we're up there turns on removal, any repairs I find and the permit step. Call (951) 430-8005 or use the form to set up the visit.
Fix what's up there before adding more
New insulation laid over old material that got soaked or filled with droppings just buries the problem, so when I find that, we take it out first through our insulation removal work. Then we do the air sealing, closing the gaps around can lights, pipes and the attic hatch, because insulation can't do much against a draft. We keep the eave vents clear so the attic still breathes, and we lay it full depth out to the edges, where attics usually come up thin. Roof leaks and bad wiring need fixing before anything covers them, or you end up paying twice.
Getting the attic ready and getting back in
We need a clear path to the attic hatch, so moving things out of the closet or garage below it before we arrive saves time. Cover anything stored near the hatch, because the work stirs up dust. With blown-in or batts, you can usually stay home while we work. Spray foam is different, because the foam maker sets a re-entry time, the wait before the kids and pets can come back in, and we tell you that wait before we start. If a crawl space or the room over the garage runs cold or hot, mention it, because I'll want to see that too.
