I come out and do the estimate

I come out and look at your attic myself before we price anything, because what's under the old insulation decides the job. If it isn't worth your money, I'll tell you that instead of selling it to you.

Insulation since 2017, HVAC before that

I spent years running duct in attics as an HVAC tech and kept crawling past insulation done wrong or never done at all. We've been in business since 2017, and that's still what I look for first in yours.

Licensed and insured in California

California's license board defines an insulation contractor as one who installs insulation for heat or sound control. We're fully licensed and insured, and the work is backed by our satisfaction guarantee. Call (951) 430-8005 to have me look at your attic.

Blown-in attic insulation in Menifee

Blown-in insulation is loose fill such as fiberglass, rock wool or cellulose, blown through a hose across your attic floor. In Menifee it suits homeowners with hot rooms upstairs, a drafty house or an attic that only has a few inches up there now.

Most people we talk to are deciding between blown-in and batts, the rolls laid between the ceiling joists. An older federal fact sheet says blowing loose fill is usually cheaper than batts and covers the attic floor better, though installation costs vary from house to house. Your price moves with the size of the attic, how many inches are already up there, how tight the access is and how much sealing and repair comes first.

The schedule mostly turns on what has to happen before insulation goes in, like a roof leak fixed or old insulation pulled out, and on whether your address needs a permit. If you're comparing contractors, California caps a home improvement down payment at $1,000 or 10 percent of the contract price, whichever is less. The estimate puts it all in writing, including what has to come first.

How we install blown-in insulation

We seal the gaps before blowing

Before anything gets blown in, we do the air sealing, closing the gaps around can lights, pipes, wiring and the attic hatch, because loose fill slows heat but doesn't stop air. Insulation sitting over an open gap just fights a draft. Federal guidance puts the job in the same order, with the ceiling under the attic floor sealed before the insulation. If the old insulation is full of rodent droppings, it comes out with insulation removal, since fresh material on top just keeps the problem in your attic.

Even to the edges, clear at the eaves

The insulation should cover the whole ceiling out to the top plate, the top edge of your walls, at a depth as even as we can get it. A lot of attics we open are deep in the middle and thin at the edges, which is backward. We set baffles, guides at the roof edge, so the eave vents keep moving air, and we keep loose fill off recessed lights that aren't rated IC, for insulated ceiling contact, with a metal or wire mesh barrier around them.

Blown-in or foam for your attic

Foam costs more and seals air while it insulates. For most attics, sealing the gaps and topping up with loose fill does the job for less, and I'll tell you so. The exception is when your ductwork runs through the attic, because that can make foam worth it, and we'll talk that through at the estimate. If the attic is only part of the problem, our home insulation work looks at the whole house, from the room over the garage to cold floors over the crawl space.

What a blown-in job looks like

  1. I look at the attic first

After you call or send the form, I come out, check how many inches are up there and point out anything that has to be fixed first. You get a written scope with the estimate, so you know what we're doing and why.

  2. Permit question and prep

Once you say go, we sort out the permit question with the office that covers your address. Then we prep, finishing any repairs and sealing the gaps, and we cover the path to the hatch so the rest of the house stays clean.

  3. Install and walk-through

Our installers blow in the insulation, with me or a lead installer running the job. When there's a city permit, Menifee requires inspections at key stages, each approved before the final, and we walk you through the attic when we're done.

Blown-in insulation questions from Menifee

Can new blown-in insulation go over my old batts?

Yes, loose fill can usually go right on top of old fiberglass batts or blankets, and it doesn't have to be the same type. If your batts are in decent shape, we leave them where they are and blow over them, which saves you paying to pull out insulation that's still doing its job.

What should be fixed in my attic before adding insulation?

Wet insulation, moldy or rotted framing, little or no ventilation and knob and tube wiring should be fixed by a professional first. If I find one, we plan the repair before the insulation date. Vermiculite, a flaky gray mineral that may contain asbestos, stays put until an approved lab tests it, and the local health department can name one.

Who issues building permits in Menifee, CA?

Inside city limits, the City of Menifee's Building & Safety Department issues building permits, its approval to start construction, alterations or repairs on a building. Submittals go through the Menifee Permit Portal, with fees, including plan review, due at submittal. We check with the office that covers your address and pull the permit when your job needs one.

Can I get attic insulation at no cost in California?

You may, if your household meets the CARE or FERA income limits. California's Energy Savings Assistance program provides no-cost weatherization services, including attic insulation, to people who qualify, so it's worth checking before you pay for the work. If you don't qualify, we're glad to come look at your attic.
